Social Democrats expand slate of General Election candidates fresh from Repeal campaigns

May 28, 2018

The Social Democrats will this week select four new people to add to our growing slate of General Election candidates, all of whom were heavily involved in the campaign to Repeal the Eighth Amendment.

RTÉ’s exit poll last Friday showed that the Yes for repeal vote was highest amongst Soc Dems supporters, at 89.5 per cent.

The selection events and candidates are as follows:

Carly Bailey for Dublin South West

The selections kick off in Dublin South West tonight when Soc Dems party vice chair Carly Bailey will launch her General Election Campaign.

Carly, who lives in Firhouse, was co-convenor of Dublin South West Together for Yes group and was the national co-ordinator for the Soc Dems’ Repeal campaign. Carly has had first-hand experience of the recession, with her family losing their home to a vulture fund. She is currently a mature student at Trinity College Dublin, studying law and political science. The Dublin South West convention will take place tonight 28th May at 7.30pm in the Glashaus Hotel, Tallaght. Details of the event are available here: https://www.facebook.com/events/209967536451985/

This week’s campaign launches will bring to 20 the total number of Soc Dems General Election candidates selected to date.

The Social Democrats will field candidates in some 30 constituencies at the next General Election, offering voters in the majority of Dáil constituencies an opportunity to vote for candidates working for a modern secular republic that prioritises the welfare of citizens in all our laws and services on the basis of equality and fairness.
