The Role

The National Organiser plays a key role in leading the strategic development of the party and enhancing the effectiveness of party members and party representatives.

Key Responsibilities

Campaign Strategy:

  • Lead the organising team on the implementation of ground plans, local campaigns and membership activities.
  • Identify and support election candidates for local and national elections.
  • Support the work of the Candidate Strategy and Development Committee.

Team Leadership and Regional Development:

  • Support the establishment of Regional Organiser roles.
  • Provide leadership to the Regional Organisers, coordinating their work with branches, representatives and campaigns.
  • Develop strong regional networks to enhance party growth, member engagement and political success.

Members, Public Representatives and Candidates:

  • Leading the strategic development and supporting the effectiveness of party members and public representatives.
  • Identify, support and work with activists, members and party representatives to promote the Social Democrats at local and national level.
  • Ensure branch activities align with the Social Democrats’ strategy, objectives and structures.
  • Support initiatives to retain and increase membership.
  • Engage with third-level students, members, and supporters, to establish and develop societies in third-level institutions as appropriate.

Administrative & Logistical Duties:

  • Lead the organising team in producing all necessary materials and merchandising.
  • Carry out other administrative or organisational tasks at the request of the General Secretary.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of Irish politics and alignment with the party’s policies and values.
  • Experience in political organising, campaigning, or community activism.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to mobilise volunteers and build grassroots networks.
  • Strong organisational and strategic planning abilities.
  • Proficiency in digital campaigning tools and social media is an advantage.
  • Full clean driving licence and access to transport preferred.
  • Experience in organising; including building contact lists, data gathering and analysis, and developing campaigns.
  • Ability to exercise judgement and initiative within a politically sensitive environment while working under pressure and achieving targets in a timely manner.

Terms and Conditions

  • The salary for this role starts from €60,000.
  • This is a fixed term contract aligned with the current term of Dáil Eireann.
  • The position will be based at the party’s head office in Dublin, flexibility is required to travel throughout Ireland to engage with local communities, attend events, hold meetings, and collaborate with branches.
  • The National Organiser will report to the General Secretary.
  • Pension contribution: up to 6% matched contribution.
  • Annual Leave days: 25 days.
  • This is a full- time position with a 35-hour working week, requiring flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend commitments as required.
