Meet Eoin

I’m Eoin Ó Broin, the Social Democrats Councillor for Clondalkin on South Dublin County Council.

I grew up in Clondalkin and attended Coláiste Chilliain. I was active in the Scouts and Round Towers GAA before moving away to study and work in Limerick, Gothenburg, Geneva, and Paris. I returned in 2017, inspired by what I had experienced abroad but happy to be home.

My career has been in Energy Systems Modelling, a branch of engineering. This has given me an understanding of the relationship between energy use and climate change, and has encouraged me to be solutions-focused. I’m also a committed trade unionist and have highlighted the issues facing workers and families, since being elected to South Dublin County Council in 2019.

I am passionate about creating a social democratic approach to housing, healthcare, childcare, and education. As a father, I believe in a republic of equals where every child can realise their full potential, where all children have a home and can share in a fair and sustainable future. The Social Democrats have the policies, people, and passion required to make a positive lasting impact on our community and country.

My primary goal in politics is delivering change in improved public services, the environment and housing.

Eoin’s Priorities

  • Health – Sláintecare is the plan to fix our broken health service and to
    achieve universal healthcare.
  • Education – Improve our education system to ensure all children have access to quality education.
  • Housing – Tackle the housing crisis by delivering affordable homes and protecting renters.
  • Childcare – Make childcare affordable by reducing fees and building a publicly owned system.
  • Climate – Take urgent climate and biodiversity action to meet our targets and protect nature.
