Hugo Mills is the Social Democrats General Election candidate for Dún Laoghaire.
Born and raised in Dún Laoghaire, Hugo understands the challenges the area faces—in particular, the absence of affordable housing, shortage of childcare places, threadbare services for children with special needs, and transport issues.
Like many in their thirties, Hugo has direct experience of the housing disaster and is living with family. At a time when people should be developing their professional and personal lives, it is unacceptable that they instead feel life is passing them by. We must not tolerate this crisis—Hugo is determined to address it.
Through caring for a family member, Hugo has firsthand experience of the flawed care system. He is committed to reforms such as legislating for a right to home care, empowering disabled people to live independently, and providing disability services as a right—not an optional extra.
Climate and biodiversity crises are key priorities for Hugo. Traffic gridlock, pollution, and neglect of green spaces demand urgent attention and increased resources.
Recently returning to Ireland to practise law after years abroad, Hugo has seen how other countries provide quality public services efficiently. He is eager to apply this knowledge to improve services and quality of life in his community.
My work in the YesEquality campaign and advocacy for repealing the Eighth Amendment reflect my passion for creating positive change. I’m running to address the housing crisis, improve care for our elderly, and ensure safer streets. Together, we can build a fairer, safer, and more just society.
I will fight to ensure your taxes are invested well on priorities like:
