I’m Shane Hickey-O’Mara, the Social Democrats Councillor for Limerick City North.
I’m a Caherdavin man, born and bred, and have lived and worked in Limerick my whole life.
Since graduating from Mary Immaculate College in 2015, I have been working in the Arts as a theatre director and youth arts facilitator. Over the past 8 years I have worked with hundreds of young Limerick artists and have been the Artistic Director of County Limerick Youth Theatre since 2020. Currently, I am in my final term of training as a psychotherapist with PCI College and work with clients in Limerick on a weekly basis.
I am honoured to represent Limerick City North and I will lead with empathy and creativity, bringing my long-held belief in accountability, transparency, and social solidarity to Limerick Council.
I never thought I would get involved in politics but seeing how the housing, healthcare, and cost of living crises have affected people in my community has inspired me to do whatever I can to help. As a renter, a student, and an artist, I know how difficult it can be to make ends meet and I am determined to do whatever I can to advocate for the people of Limerick who have been let down by the political system.
