The Social Democrats have urged Ryanair to meet with the Irish pilots’ union Impact as soon as possible to ensure that progress can be made in relation to the ongoing industrial dispute.
The party’s co-leader Catherine Murphy TD said:
“Ryanair’s statement today that it intends to recognise trade unions is potentially a very significant one given that the company has failed to recognise pilot unions for the past 32 years.
“It is vital that Ryanair’s offer of union recognition comes with no strings attached and that this is the beginning of a wider collective bargaining process in the airline that will extend to other staff including cabin crew.
“There is scope now for next week’s strike action to be averted, and the company and Impact representatives must now get around a table as soon as possible to ensure that suitable arrangements can be put in place.”
