Reacting to the news that mother and baby home survivors’ audio recordings have been found, Social Democrats TD Jennifer Whitmore said:
“It’s welcome that audio has been recovered, but this by no means negates the case for extending the term of the Commission.
“Many unanswered questions remain tonight. We feel survivors will need further guarantees about their data and information. There are complex issues here, and the new information that has come to light will need to be scrutinised.
“It seems that the prospect of the Social Democrats’ motion on extending the Commission has concentrated Government minds. However, there are still questions that need to be answered and the very least the State can give survivors is more time.”
