Catherine Murphy TD, co-leader of the Social Democrats, has welcomed confirmation that localised restrictions in Kildare have been lifted but called on the Taoiseach to visit the county to hear first-hand what further financial supports will be required for impacted businesses.

Deputy Murphy, who represents Kildare North, said:

“Following advice from NPHET this morning, the Government’s decision to end the lockdown in Kildare with effect from this evening will be met with relief by residents and the business community.

“The people of Kildare have shown remarkable fortitude in the face of these restrictions, which have been in place since August 7, and lessons will need to be learned in terms of how the Government responds to future outbreaks.

“The severe impact these restrictions have had on the local economy cannot be overstated. I am again calling on the Taoiseach to visit Kildare to hear how businesses are struggling to survive and what additional financial supports are going to be needed.”
