Meet Pádraig

I’m Pádraig Rice, the Social Democrats Local Election Candidate for Cork City South Central.

I live in Ballyphehane with my husband Aaron. I’ve been a community organiser and human rights campaigner for the last 15 years.

I currently work as the Policy and Research Manager with LGBT Ireland. I previously worked as a Parliamentary Assistant in the Dáil and Seanad, as a Community Worker with the Cork Gay Project, as the Welfare Officer of UCC Students’ Union and as a Research Intern with Trócaire in Uganda.

I have a Law degree and a BSc from UCC, and a Masters degree in Public Policy from the University of Oxford.

My vision is for a City of Equals where everyone has access to decent housing, timely healthcare and a clean environment.

I’m running in this election because I want to make Cork a better place for everyone.

Pádraig’s Priorities

  • Delivering affordable and social housing to end the housing crisis.
  • Reforming the two-tier healthcare system to ensure that everyone has timely access to good quality healthcare that is free at the point of use.
  • Increasing investment in public services, including childcare, education and public transport.
  • Improving public spaces with more public toilets, parks, benches, water fountains and trees.
  • Ensuring we have better political decision-making with increased transparency and accountability.
